2018 Camp goers will have the opportunity to take a field trip at the end of the week courtesy of the Kewanee Elk’s Lodge. The June session will be going to the Niabi Zoo (http://www.niabizoo.com/) and the August session will be going to the Putnam Museum (http://www.putnam.org/). Transportation for both field trips will be provided by a Kewanee School District Bus.
The Kewanee Park District offers 2 day camps and 1 special needs camps throughout the summer for children ages 5-10 years old. All camps are run by Sharon DeSmit who has been the director since the first day camp in 1998. 2018 Daycamps were a great success with numbers reaching capacity. We hope all campers had a great time and look forward to seeing you all again next year!
Camps are held once a month in June and July and run Monday through Friday from 9:00am – Noon each day. Monday – Wednesday the camps are held at the Shelter House at Windmont Park where they will receive a free t-shirt on the first day. On Thursday of the camp, the campers get to go to the Oasis Family Aquatic Center – weather permitting. On Friday, camp participants have an outing and enjoy lunch at Happy Joe’s.
The camps also welcome special visitors during the week such as the RaeAnn Tucker (Henry Co Health Dept), Officers from the Kewanee Police Department and Fire Fighters from the Kewanee Fire Department, Dick & Mary Jo Rouse (Therapy Dogs), Bob Plum (Happy Joe’s), Cheryl Geitner (University of Illinois Extension).
Each session is $30.00 and registration is limited to the first 30 campers per session. Registrations for the day camps can be picked up at the Kewanee Park District Office.
